Emma Hayes Appointed as Head Coach of U.S. Women's National Soccer Team

Experienced Coach Takes Helm of World-Renowned Squad

Chicago, November 14, 2023

The United States Soccer Federation (USSF) has announced the appointment of Emma Hayes as the 10th full-time head coach of the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team (USWNT). The 47-year-old Englishwoman takes over from Vlatko Andonovski, who led the team to a second-place finish at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.

Hayes brings a wealth of experience to the role, having managed Chelsea Women to five Women's Super League titles, two Women's FA Cups, and a UEFA Women's Champions League runner-up finish. She is known for her attacking style of play and her ability to develop young talent.

The USWNT is currently ranked No. 1 in the FIFA World Rankings and is determined to win gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Hayes will have the task of guiding the team through the qualification process and preparing them for the Summer Games.

In addition to the Olympics, Hayes will also lead the USWNT through the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup cycle. The United States is the most successful nation in the history of the tournament, having won four titles.

Hayes' appointment has been met with praise from players and pundits alike. USWNT star Megan Rapinoe said, "Emma is a brilliant coach who will bring a lot of success to the USWNT. She has a proven track record of winning and developing players, and I'm excited to work with her."

Hayes herself said she was "honored and humbled" to be named head coach of the USWNT. "This is a dream job for me," she said. "I'm excited to work with this group of talented players and help them achieve their goals."
