Europa League: Welbeck scores as Brighton lose 4-0 to Roma

Brighton's European adventure came to an end on Thursday night as they were beaten 4-0 by Roma in the last 16 of the Europa League.

Danny Welbeck scored his first Europa League goal of the season but it was a mere consolation as Roma ran out comfortable winners at the Stadio Olimpico.

Roma took the lead through Paulo Dybala in the first half and doubled their advantage through Andrea Belotti just after the hour mark. Substitute Romelu Lukaku then added two more in the closing stages to seal a comprehensive victory for the Italian side.

The result means that Brighton's hopes of winning a first major European trophy are over for this season. They will now turn their attention back to the Premier League, where they are currently 10th in the table.
