Edmonton Elks Defeat Calgary Colts

Defensive Touchdowns Make the Difference

EDMONTON - A pair of defensive touchdowns were the difference Saturday night as the host Edmonton Elks defeated the Calgary Colts 23-16 in Alberta Football League action.

The Elks got on the board first when defensive back Tre'Von Adams intercepted a pass and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown. The Colts tied the game in the second quarter on a 30-yard field goal by Riley Gay.

Edmonton regained the lead in the third quarter when defensive end Kwabena Asare sacked Colts quarterback Jimmy Underdahl in the end zone for a safety. The Elks extended their lead to 16-3 later in the quarter on a 35-yard field goal by Sean Whyte.

The Colts cut the lead to 16-10 on a 1-yard touchdown run by running back Alex Taylor in the fourth quarter. However, the Elks put the game away with another defensive touchdown, this time a 45-yard interception return by linebacker Greg Oliver.

The Elks improved to 2-0 on the season, while the Colts fell to 0-2.

The Alberta Football League is an amateur Canadian football league. The league's schedule runs from the start of July to the end of October. The league is divided into two divisions, the North and the South. The top two teams from each division qualify for the playoffs.
